Hurricanes and Weight Loss

Posted by Posted in Uncategorized Posted on 03-09-2008

I know I know how are these 2 things tied together? Well in a word it’s stress.

First off I’d like to say that my prayers and thoughts are with those people that are in the direct path of the current hurricane line up in the Atlantic. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to live through these year after year.

I have been watching the hurricane updates daily, the more I read and see the more stressed I get.

O’ Canada

I live in Canada and Hurricanes really don’t affect us all that much. A few thunderstorms and some heavy rain but that’s about it. So normally I don’t concern myself with Hurricane season and just pray for the safety of the people in those regions. Until this year…..

Disneyland

This Sunday is the start of our family’s first Walt Disney World vacation. We leave on Sunday and are in Disney for a week. We have being saving for a while and my kids are so excited to go that they can’t sleep.

As you can imagine I want them to have a great vacation which I’m sure we will. But these damn Hurricanes are stressing me out!!

The last time I was on vacation I gained 6 pounds. Well those pounds are gone and then some. I’m sure that exercise and returning to my healthy eating habits contributed to the weight loss but the biggest factor has been the stress.

As you can see there are quite a few storms/hurricanes to keep track of. Since I will be in Florida I can only assume that all of them will hit Florida, as that is just my luck.

There are only 2 things keeping me sane at this point:

1. Is knowing that I will be with my family at Disneyland and that has me smiling already. Rain or shine we will have a great time.

2. I get to return to my home. After all is said and done I will still have a place to go that has not been touched by the Hurricanes.

What do you think, am I being selfish? Have you ever been though a Hurricane?
Am I over reacting to all these “updates and watches”?

Help Me Help You

As you may or may not know I am always looking to improve myself and the other people around me. I enjoy helping and inspiring others whenever possible, especially in achieving their weight loss goals.

So I would like to know what it is that you need in order to lose your weight? What can I help you with or provide to you that would seriously help you to get in shape and lose the weight for good?

Is it daily motivational emails, or more “how to” type of blog posts, or an ebook. Would you like more lists (healthy foods, spices for cooking, most effective exercises etc…) Or is it something else entirely?

I understand that this is my blog and I will write about topics that I’m interested and knowledgeable in, but I also want this to be a place where you can actually learn something and apply it in your daily life.

This applies not only to this blog but also the main site attached to the blog weightlossweapons.com feel free to look around and see if there is a piece of the puzzle missing.

Please leave a comment with your suggestions or email me.
Thanks for your time,
Steve

One Hundred Push-ups Challange

Posted by Posted in Uncategorized Posted on 27-06-2008

Just a quick post to let you know that I’m doing the 100 push-up challange.

I hope that most of you have already heard about the one hundred push-up challange going on at hundredpushups.com. It’s an online plan with the goal of getting you to be able to complete 100 pushups in a row within 6 weeks (give or take a week).

Push ups are a great way to track your progress and test your strength. I started this challange last week with my intial test being 63 straight push-ups. Although my form was questionable on the last few. I have completed week one and let me tell you it’s not as easy as I thought it would be. I managed to complete 51 for my fifth level as my max by the end of the week.

That’s a lot less than my intial test but still more than half way to reaching the 100 push up mark.

Proper form is essential in doing these. Don’t cheat and only go half way down or do the girl push up (unless you’re a girl). This is how you complete a proper classic push-up.

hundredpushups.com is also a great resource for finding other bloggers that are also striving to hit the 100 push-up mark. You can find them under the Take the Challange section.

So go to hundredpushups.com and sign up, print out the workout schedule and complete the intital test. Then leave a comment here and let me know how many you can do :)

Made in Canada, eh

Here is another great episode of Marketplace on CBC.

In this episode Wendy Mesley explores foods that are labeled as “Made in Canada” and “Product of Canada” but have sometimes been to as many as 3 other continents before landing on your plate.

Here is the trailer:

Product of Canada” seems to be just another marketing ploy, when it comes to your food anyway. You can watch the whole episode Here.

There are some great tips on how to find out where your food comes from and how to really eat locally.

Exercising while you are sick?

Posted by Posted in Uncategorized Posted on 04-11-2007

Just a quick post to ask a question. Do you exercise when you are sick?

Over the past few days I have had a cold. Dealing with the all the symptoms that go along with it is no fun. I’ve been struggling with weather or not I should continue my workouts, stop them all together or just do some light walking.

Which do you think is the best option?

This is the first time in about a year that I have actually had a cold. (Another benefit of exercise and a healthier lifestyle). But with all the weird weather changes plus 2 kids in 2 schools, the bug finally got me this week.

So what do you do when you’re sick?
