How to gain 6 pounds in a week

Posted by Steve on Aug 18, 2008 in Motivation | 7 comments

For all of us trying to lose weight the battle is usually a very tough one. Sometimes weeks go by without dropping a single pound, and those can be discouraging.

Then you get a week like last week. I gained 6 pounds. Now, I know muscle weighs more then fat but I didn’t lift a single pound in the gym.

The only reason I can come up with is that I was on vacation last week. To me that apparently meant a vacation not only from my job but also from my healthier lifestyle that I had created as well.

My top 5 ways to gain 6 pounds in just 1 week:

1. Never eat a “meal” at home. (this includes breakfast)

2. Stop all forms of activities that get your heart rate up.

3. Do not weigh yourself every day.

4. Stop blogging, reading inspirational posts or giving praise and congratulations to others for their weight loss successes.

5. Repeat this phrase before making a decision that you know will not help your weight loss efforts. “Screw it, I’m on vacation

There you have it, if you have been getting tired of losing weight and want to gain a large amount of unhealthy fat in just 1 week, follow the directions above.

Lessons Learned

Basically I have learned some very important lessons this week, those being that:

1. Your metabolism doesn’t take vacations.

2. In building a healthy lifestyle you will slip up, you will make horrible decisions from time to time.

3. Weight loss is a daily fight and making long lasting healthy habits is your best defense.

So I guess this is the “back on track” week. I am fortunate enough that last week was my recovery week in the P90X program. Which up until this latest slip was going incredibly well.

There you have it, if you have been getting tired of losing weight and want to gain a large amount of unhealthy weight in just 1 week, follow the directions above.

  1. “Screw it, I’m on vacation”

I’ve got a 4 week vacation coming up at the end of November. I must resist your mantra!

  2. Looking at my own body shape and size, i better on vacation too. Good post!

  3. a very informative post, specially the part ” your metabolism doesn’t take vacation” and weight loss is a daily fight :-(

for me the fight is like a lost cause i gues . but i am still working on it

  4. Hey, dude it’s very simple and easy steps to gain weight.

  5. I wish my metabolism went on a healthy spa retreat. Forget being on vacation, take my metabolism to the gym, please! lol

Though I have to admit that I do eat out a lot, I eat my heaviest meal at lunch. And I buy lunches that are healthy, like a veggie burger and salad. Or just a nice big salad with some cheese. I eat light at home for supper. And in the last 2 months, I’ve lost 1, maybe 2 pant sizes! woohoo!

  6. Its true, its alot harder to loose fat than it is to gain it!

I would likely guess that alot of the weight you had gained was also water retention from the increase in carbs you were eating.

  7. Well, what i’ve learned in weight loss struggle is that whether you eat more or less carbs: metabolism is the main reason why we gain or lose fast. Also don’t forget about some people who are on certain medications that may aggravate situation. Your vitamins might be culprit too as it drives up your appetite and you may not notice it. I’m currently doing a research on chemotherapy and weight loss due to that.
