Recently I was in a car accident. A hit from behind that had left me with pain, stiffness and very restricted range of motion. Needless to say this has knocked me off weight loss and exercise plan.
I am now just at the point of getting back on track and being able to start a regular workout routine again. Over the passed 2 months I’ve gained 12 pounds. Not a huge deal but definitely a set back to my plan.
It’s not all bad though, it could have been worse. I could have been more seriously injured or gained 20 plus pounds. I did manage to get some exercise in, walking mostly.
This whole experience has really drilled home 2 important points.
1. Poor diet mixed with little or no exercise is a recipe for disaster. It’s not just the weight gain, but also the feelings of laziness and the negative thoughts that come with it.
2. Don’t plan too far ahead. Life has a way of changing those plans weather you like it or not. I had planned to run my first half marathon this spring and be at my goal weight by mid summer. So I’ve had to adjust my goals according to my current physical condition.
My posting frequency has dropped off during this time mainly because I really didn’t have anything interesting or motivational to say. That will change as I become more active and resume my weight loss plan. My next post will be on something that I’ve found to be very important that too many people don’t take advantage of when it’s offered.
Thank you for continuing to post your comments on my previous articles. They have been very encouraging.
Welcome back! Looking forward to more posts.
Sorry to hear about your accident. I myself gained a lot kgs very fast actually so fast that I got stretch marks. Now I have lost some of the kgs again but the marks are still there
I am sorry to hear your accident. I hope you have new motivation again to post.
My friend Rick broke his ankle and gained 100 lbs being bed ridden for over 2 months he also developed Diabetes in that same period but he is getting on track now . I hope you recover soon!!!!
The mental challenge is half the battle in a diet. You have to do something, diet or exercise. Ideally both, but when you can’t do one, it’s best to at least do the other.
Sorry to hear about the accident as well. I think that life is always throwing us little challenges along the way. The key is to stick to your goals and make them happen! I was sick a few years ago and gained some weight as well- I know what a setback that can be.
Nice to see you back. As for your post, yes it’s true. A diet should be added with good exercises. It’s not possible to lose weight without exercising.
Cool… you will get better life than before.. i hope..
Hope you’re feeling better now. Don’t over do it ok. It’s true exercises is important but to do it you must have a perfect working body condition. So it would be no harm to get rest. After full recovery you could start on your routine. Good Luck and Good Health to you!
It’s annoying how circumstances change and (like you’ve said) your original plans have to be altered. All the best for getting back on track buddy
Oh dear, Are you ok? Better get rested and eat well. Don’t do any exercise that will add pain to your body.
Great advice. Too often people get involved into high-tech exercises or cutting edge nutrition and forget about the basics of losing weight. Thanks for reminding us that we need to approach weight loss as a complex problem without a wonder cure.
I’m so sorry to hear this! I’m glad you’re ok and recovering. Looking forward to hearing more from you soon.
It’s really good to hear that you’re recovering. But never mind about the weight gain. It was reduced before so it could be done again =) Good luck and I hope to see more of your articles.
Sorry to hear about the accident.. practice is the best way to get a good result.. keep on doing it and don’t give up… would like to hear from you soon…
Hey keep that smile up buddy.. You’re still alive, that is more than enough reason to move on.. Hope I can read more articles from your site. God bless you!
The corollary to # 1 is true as well. Exercise without proper dietary intake will result in less the optimal fat loss. Good luck on your recovery!
I’m sorry to hear the sad news. Hope that you are fine now.
I’ll never believe in diets saying that you can lose weight without exercising. If this is so, the diets should be extremely dangerous since they are extremely low in calorie. If really want to lose weight, then we should stick to a healthy diet plan, and lose weight little by little (my favorite song from Oasis
)
Hope that you are getting better.

I am sorry to hear about your accident. Whatever plan you will take, work on it constantly because without that we can get nothing.
Hope you’re feeling better now. Don’t over do it okay? It’s true, exercise is important but to do safely you must be in good health. So it would be no harm to get some rest. After full recovery, you could start on your routine. Visit this website for some tips on how to have exercise without straining your body — http://www.thirdage.com/ebsco/files/13839.html
And as for using a home gym. I guess that would be the one you’ll be needing now. Find something that has smooth flow, and can actually understand your body’s need. I have been in accident as well, when a car hit me while riding bicycle 2 years ago. I had been sitting around feeling sorry for my self for a long time. Finally I purchased a home gym that is not only comfortable but sturdy as well. Good luck with your recovery.
I hope you are now well and fighting fit Steve. Exercise and diet go hand in hand, both are important for a healthy existence.
