Exercising while you are sick?

9:37 pm Uncategorized

Just a quick post to ask a question. Do you exercise when you are sick?

Over the past few days I have had a cold. Dealing with the all the symptoms that go along with it is no fun. I’ve been struggling with weather or not I should continue my workouts, stop them all together or just do some light walking.

Which do you think is the best option?

This is the first time in about a year that I have actually had a cold. (Another benefit of exercise and a healthier lifestyle). But with all the weird weather changes plus 2 kids in 2 schools, the bug finally got me this week.

So what do you do when you’re sick?

I like to exercise when I am sick. Well, I dont like doing it, but doing it makes me feel like I am fighting off the sickness.

I decided to go with the light walking and a good thing to. I didn’t feel all that great afterwards. But I think if I would have pushed it, I would have been even worse.

    Israel always the warrior :)

For me, it all depends on what kind of sick it is. If it’s the flu, stomach sickness, the chills… I’m in bed. Usually it’s just a cough and sneeze though. I work through those if I still have high energy levels and don’t feel too bad.

Hope you’re feeling better by now.

    Hey Jason,

I had the cough and the sneezing which I could handle but it was the fever and headache that got me down.

    I’m completely better now though.

    Thanks for the comment

Doing cardio while you have the flu can seriously damage your heart. However, doing weights can be beneficial.

What I have always enjoyed doing is working my cold out. If I am sick, I will go out for a long run and a work out. I like to break a huge sweat and then come back and drink as much fluids (water/gatorade) as I can. I have always felt better right after doing this and usually notice a huge difference the next day. This could be mental, but hey it works.

Yeah I thought about trying to sweat it out but I already had a pretty good sweat going from the fever :)

I’m glad I took it easy and just walked. I came back stronger and more ready to workout after recovering.

I did drink a ton of gatorade though. I think that helped a bit.
