Just a quick post to let you know that I’m doing the 100 push-up challange.
I hope that most of you have already heard about the one hundred push-up challange going on at hundredpushups.com. It’s an online plan with the goal of getting you to be able to complete 100 pushups in a row within 6 weeks (give or take a week).
Push ups are a great way to track your progress and test your strength. I started this challange last week with my intial test being 63 straight push-ups. Although my form was questionable on the last few. I have completed week one and let me tell you it’s not as easy as I thought it would be. I managed to complete 51 for my fifth level as my max by the end of the week.
That’s a lot less than my intial test but still more than half way to reaching the 100 push up mark.
Proper form is essential in doing these. Don’t cheat and only go half way down or do the girl push up (unless you’re a girl). This is how you complete a proper classic push-up.
hundredpushups.com is also a great resource for finding other bloggers that are also striving to hit the 100 push-up mark. You can find them under the Take the Challange section.
So go to hundredpushups.com and sign up, print out the workout schedule and complete the intital test. Then leave a comment here and let me know how many you can do

Good luck on the plan! I just finished the second week and so far so good:

Heh! I’m doing it too and I’ve just finished week 01. I had to do it twice as I couldn’t finish day 03 the first time.
Hey,
what a great idea. I have always incorporated a lot of push-ups into my workouts, but never 100 in a row
I will get started on it today (I mean later…it’s 3:30 am).

Heh. Sounds like a cool and very sound route to getting push ups in your workout routine. I rarely do push ups – I only do it sometimes during a chest workout.
I think I will follow the plan, and I’m pretty sure I will be starting out at the 20-30 push up range, but if….when I make it to 100 that will be an amazing accomplishment.
@Andrew – I was actually surprised at how difficult this first week was. Week 2 will no doubt be even tougher. Good luck.
@Uli – Congrats on starting the challenge it will surely put your strength to the test.
@Mike – 20-30 is a great starting point. A lot of people are at 10 of less so your already well on your way. 100 is the magic mark, but just imagine how many you could do in 12 weeks?
Such sites and plans always motivate to do something extra ordinary. Perhaps we need a friend who would take us along for a walk or to a GYM. I think such plans play the same role in our life.
Finished week one with 18 max, so still have a long way to go. Also I know I’m not going down as far as I should but if I can get to 18 to 100 of what I’m doing I’ll be pretty damn happy.
I just tried doing as many pushups as I can.
8.
And they were “girl” pushups!
Going over to sign up now! what a great idea to keep you working at it.
@ Stair lift – I agree that these types of plans and challenges are really helpful it motivating us. It takes you out of your regular routine and gives you something new to do.
@ John – 18 is actually pretty good. You should be able to improve on that by quite a bit after week 2.
@ Jeniffer – Push ups are very humbling aren’t they. It gives a number (sort of like a grade) to your strength at any given point in time.
I’ve been doing push ups for a few years so I had a decent base to start with.
I finished week 2 and my max was 57, up a bit from last week.
(I hope I’m doing it right)
I have done 54 in one minute, but unsure about one hundren non stop (I am much better at power based stuff, not endurance)! The DOMS the next day puts me right off the idea! A tip which helps me mentally is to only count out loud every 10 reps, so 10 reps would be “1″, 20 reps “2″ and so on to “10″. It doesn’t make the numbers sound so big
